The FLASH-COMP project got under way in style when partners gathered in Ordizia in Northern Spain at the end of October for its kick-off meeting. Before settling down to planning and discussing project activities, partners met up close by in San Sebastián for a welcome dinner and some ice-breaker activities so everyone could get to know each other before the hard work began.
At the kick-off meeting itself, partners were able to discuss in detail the work programme for the three years of the project and in doing so gain a better understanding of the tasks ahead, the interrelationships and the synergies. The consortium was also able to make some critical decisions about its working groups and decide upon specific tasks that need to be completed in the first six months of working together.
After the meeting, partners were able to visit the facilities of LORTEK, the coordinating partner. As well as coordinating the project, LORTEK is also leading the work on monitoring, inspection, and control techniques, so seeing where this will be done and previous work in this area made this a valuable experience for all.
FLASH-COMP is an innovation action and part of the EU’s 2021 green transition call. The project is aiming to bring novel digital technologies to the liquid resin infusion (LRI) process.
As one of the most-used manufacturing processes using composite materials, FLASH-COMP will deliver advanced, automated controls and in-line defect monitoring and detection to the LRI process, which will enable industry to cut down on the waste of materials as well as improving efficiencies in the factory and the quality of products being produced – its “right first time” approach.
