Azimut Yachts in FLASH-COMP

Azimut Yachts is an Italian yacht-manufacturing company based in Viareggio, Italy. The composite structures such as boat hulls that they produce for these yachts can be anywhere between 14-50 metres in length.

A complete solution adapted to large scale production parts will be installed, integrating multi-spectral 2D cameras and 3D laser profilers for inspection of the preforming and layup stages, as well as FLASH-LiDAR and Pyzoflex® for the monitoring and control of the infusion process and resin cure.

INEGI will assist Azimut Yachts in the integration, fine-tuning, and industrial tests of the FLASH-COMP solution.

This use case will be carried out in three steps:

  • Small-scale: using plates measuring 500mm x 1000mm to analyse the permeability of the fabrics used
  • Medium-scale: using objects of between 4-10 sqm to analyse the specific complex shapes and the approaches and solutions for creating these items
  • Full-scale: a full-scale sample of a small hull or superstructure, measuring between 14-20m, to evaluate the full complexity of a composite yacht part

It is estimated that the FLASH-COMP solutions will reduce the landfill waste that Azimut Yachts produces by 150 tonnes per year, saving them approximately €1.1 million per year.

Production time will be reduced by 10% for small and medium size yachts, which will allow Azimut Yachts to increase its yearly production of yachts by 6%.
