Test Bed Infusion Process

Filming the FLASH-COMP testbed in action in Porto and interviewing all the partners involved is set to deliver the complete FLASH-COMP story, showcasing how innovative technologies come together to achieve zero defect manufacturing.

During the latest FLASH-COMP project meeting held at the INEGI headquarters in Porto, Portugal, an Insight Media crew was on site to document the latest project developments and bring this story to life. As the project partners gathered to discuss progress and action plans, the Insight Media crew took the opportunity to capture the cutting-edge FLASH-COMP technologies in action on a bespoke testbed.

The focus of the new film is to showcase how these technologies work and, more importantly, how they come together to deliver real-world benefits. The film aims to highlight the integration of data collection tools, real-time processing, simulation algorithms and defect prediction, all within the context of the live testbed demonstration.

The Insight Media team filmed the setup of the testbed, the live demonstration of the Liquid Resin Infusion (LRI) process and captured the reactions of project partners as they witnessed the technologies seamlessly working together. To ensure a compelling story, the crew also conducted interviews with all the key partners involved in the project. These interviews aim to provide a deeper insight into how the various innovations contribute to achieving zero defect manufacturing in composite processes.

A film to inspire and inform

The footage is now back in the editing suite at Insight Media HQ, where the team is busy crafting a documentary film that will capture the story of FLASH-COMP’s journey towards real-world implementation. The film will not only explain how the technologies work individually but will also showcase their combined impact, showing how the testbed demonstrates the potential for achieving Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) on an industrial scale.

William Davis, Managing Director of Insight Media, commented on the experience: “It was a great privilege to be in Porto to not only witness the FLASH-COMP testbed in action and for all the technologies to come together as they did, but also to talk to all the partners and get the whole FLASH-COMP story told in such detail.

“The challenge now is to edit all this fascinating footage into a compelling story that captivates and inspires relevant companies to consider how implementing digital technologies into their processes can deliver real benefits, and now, after our successful testbed demonstration, not just in theory!”

The film is currently in post-production, and a release date will be announced soon. Stay tuned for an insightful and inspiring look at how FLASH-COMP innovations are set to transform composite manufacturing.

FLASH-COMP Physical Test Bed

From validation to demonstration: FLASH-COMP clears the path towards zero defect manufacturing for large-scale composites

Three years after launch, FLASH-COMP has reached a defining moment. The completion and validation of its Physical Test Bed for large composite liquid resin infusion processes confirms pre-industrial integration readiness and opens the door to full industrial demonstration – accelerating the project’s mission to enable the sustainable, zero-defect manufacturing of composite parts.
