Project coordinators Lortek presented the innovations behind FLASH-COMP at the IASIM 2024 conference in Bilbao.
The Ninth International Conference in Spectral Imaging (IASIM 2024) was held in the city of Bilbao, Spain, from July 6th to 10th. As a biannual event, IASIM serves as a pivotal gathering for the spectral imaging community, providing a unified, open, cross-disciplinary, and interactive forum. It fosters the exchange of information and ideas across various spectral and spatial ranges, attracting professionals from diverse fields.
Lortek, as the coordinator of the FLASH-COMP project, made a notable contribution to the conference, with the company’s Xabier Zurutuza presenting a poster detailing the innovative work of the project.
His poster focused on resin curing degree monitorisation for liquid resin infusion processes using Near-Infrared (NIR) hyperspectral imaging. It generated significant interest among the conference delegates, who were particularly intrigued by the novel application of hyperspectral imaging in composite manufacturing – a field that typically sees this technology applied to food quality control, plastic sorting, and general chemometric analysis.
The attention garnered by this presentation highlighted the unique nature of the FLASH-COMP project’s approach. The project’s innovative use of NIR hyperspectral imaging to monitor resin curing degrees in liquid resin infusion processes represents a significant advancement in composite material manufacturing. This work highlights a potential shift in the application of hyperspectral imaging technologies beyond their traditional domains.
Following the enthusiastic reception at IASIM 2024, Lortek, along with dissemination partner IMG, plans to engage further with interested stakeholders. This follow-up will explore the broader applications of FLASH-COMP technologies, leveraging the insights and connections made during the conference.
